The Internet Cafe
Status: Ongoing
Opened July 2012
The majority of children in Ghana do not have access to computers or Internet. As we all know, the Internet can serve as a vital educational resource and source of income. We plan to open an Internet cafe in July 2012 to establish a consistent, large income base that the orphanage can use to invest in their further development.
In the summer of 2011, we were able to get 10 computers donated and establish an Internet line at Happy Kids. Since then, the teachers and children have been learning basics such as Microsoft Word and Internet. The children have even begun sending their own emails.
The internet cafe is a crucial step in establishing sustainability for Happy Kids, and one that we hope will garner an income substantial enough so that they can support themselves. The funds from this project are also anticipated to enable them to pay the salaries of more educated teachers, save for further infrastructure projects and better feed all of the children that attend.
