Volunteer

Volunteering at Happy Kids in Ghana can be one of the most rewarding,

challenging and life-changing experiences you will ever have.

Happy Kids currently receives volunteers throughout the year via a volunteer placement organization, Cross Cultural Solutions. Individuals interested in volunteering can also travel independently and stay at the local hotel (while coordinating with other returning volunteers). Volunteers provide extra support by teaching children, teaching conversational English, and planning games, songs and field trips. As with many public services in the area, Happy Kids is overcrowded, and understaffed, leaving many children without the personal attention and assistance they need.

Learning English from a native English speaker is so appealing that the sheer presence of international volunteers typically increases attendance at school. Volunteers learn about the local customs and culture and became invaluable, contributing members of village life. Due to the lack of staffing, volunteers are extremely vital in supplying Happy Kids with creative lesson plans, fresh eyes, and lots and lots of hugs.

However, volunteering is not easy. The weather in Ghana is extremely hot and volunteers typically work with limited access to resources or any type of guidance. If this is something you may be interested in, we would love to help give more information and coordinate your volunteer experience with Happy Kids.
